The MAXX Formula qualifying session this morning started, as expected, under very wet conditions. However, all 10 drivers took the challenge and went on track immediately. From the beginning the battle from yesterday`s free practice between the three fastest pilots on wets, Kurt Böhlen (SUI), Bernd Herndlhofer (AUT) and Christopher Brenier (FRA) continued and it was the French SuperLeague driver, who set the first fastest lap with a 1:58.877. In lap three Kurt Böhlen counterattacked with a 1:58.350, followed by Herndlhofer, who just missed the temporary lead by 0.05 sec. As time passed, the track became faster and faster and the entire grid improved their lap times consistently. The midfield was dominated by a three-way fight between the Indy Car pilot Anton Werner (GER), Gilles Brenier (FRA) and Martin Kindler (SUI). At the end The French Super League driver secured P4 with a slight time advantage of 0.134 sec ahead of Martin Kindler and Anton Werner finished P6 with a gap of 0.366 sec to Kindler. Karl-Heinz Becker and Stephan Glaser, the two Masters Class pilots followed on P7 and P8, Glaser had a spin in the midst of the session and lost valuable time to get back to rhythm and attack again. Veronika Jaksch slowly adopted to the difficult conditions and improved her lap times step by step. She ended up on P9 and we can definitely expect an even better performance in today`s race in front of her home crowd. Christian Eicke completed the field, unfortunately he spun out earlier in the session and had no opportunity anymore to improve later on, when the track started to become faster.

The showdown of the Qualifying happened between the three fastest pilots Brenier, Herndlhofer and Böhlen. Lap by Lap all of them improved lap times and the pole position changed constantly. During a full course yellow 7 minutes prior to the end, Herndlhofer entered the box to change the setup and tire pressure in order to give it another shot, while Brenier passed the finish line with a new best lap time of 1:48.505. Kurt Böhlen finally risked too much and parked his GP2 in the gravel bed while attempting to beat Brenier`s pole time. Herndlhofer went out of the pits for his final attack and was unfortunately stopped by another full course yellow, so he could not challenge Brenier anymore. Ultimately, the forecast for today`s race looks quite exciting as all three at the top seem to be able to battle each other closely and the weather forecast again shows similar conditions.
